The infographic below offers insight on the university’s systems to defend against e-mail spam and a few small steps users can take when faced with this nuisance.
The network team must perform a time sensitive upgrade to the Cisco phone system Friday the 8th of September from 10:00-10:30 PM. During this time phones in the Student Engagement Center and the School of Osteopathic Medicine will not be able to make or receive calls to non-UIW numbers. Calls to UIW numbers will still work. No other impacts to technology services are expected.
Previous issues at the SEC and SOM that prevented users from making and receiving external calls has been resolved.

UIW is starting the 2017-18 school year with a shiny new internet connection. We recently finished upgrading to a “10 Gigabyte per second” circuit. This is a 10 fold increase in capacity and will help ensure everyone is able to access any network resources they need without issue today and well into the future.
Did you know the entire Library of Congress equals 10 Terabytes of information? With UIW’s new incredibly fast internet you could theoretically download all that information in a little over two hours! When I was in college my 56k modem would have taken 48 years to do the same thing. We have come long way (it wasn’t even THAT long ago).
For all the non-techies the picture below may look pretty boring, but it represents a lot of hours of work over the summer. All well worth it in the end.
From approximately 5:45 – 6:05, Monday August 21st, BannerWeb experienced a disruption of service. This issue has been resolved. No other services were affected.
The names of the UIW wireless networks are changing. The new networks are designed with improved user experience in mind and will help UIW meet the growing demand for wireless connectivity. NEW WIRELESS NETWORKS ARE:
- uiw-employees (connectivity for all employees anywhere across UIW)
- uiw-students (connectivity for students in residence halls and academic buildings)
- uiw-guests (provides connectivity through a registration portal…good for 24 hours per registration)
- uiw-resnet-limited (only in residence halls for gaming consoles and similar devices)
All UIW Campuses and buildings
The new networks are available now. The old “uiwtx-wpa” network will be turned off by close of business on Friday the 11th of August.
Users also should note that during the testing period, uiw-guests was open to anyone and did not require registration. Starting 6pm on Sunday August 13th, all guest registration (including in residence halls) will be redirected to a guest registration portal. UIW employees and students should use their respective wireless network rather than the guest network.
REQUIRED USER ACTION:
Users can login to the appropriate network with their UIW username and password.
